Persuasion was one of Austen's final novels before her death in 1817, receiving a posthumous release the following year. According to the publication, the film's plot will tackle the following: "Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth — the dashing one she once sent away — crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances."

After the success of Emma, another film version of Austen's work that competed for several awards at the 2021 Academy Awards, the new film project to win over the audience. However, it's worth mentioning that this is not the only adaptation of Persuasion in progress. Another version currently in the works stars Succession's Sarah Snook.

Depiste such an engaging story, loyal fans of Austen's writing have taken to social media to question the choice of casting an American actress like Johnson as the lead. While the project is set to go into production next month, no other casting announcements have been made.
