It's official: the Uruguayan designer Gabriela Hearst is the new artistic director of the house of Chloé. She succeeds Natacha Ramsay-Levi, who served in this position for three years. Riccardo Bellini, CEO of the house, is delighted with the news, saying, "Her powerful vision of more responsible fashion truly embodies the values and sense of commitment of today's Chloé women. Gabriela is a forward-thinking woman and her creative leadership will be a positive force in further evolving and expanding our founder’s original vision of meaningful and powerful femininity." Hearst will be the first female designer from a multicultural background, both Uruguay and the United States, to lead any Parisian fashion house.

Born in Uruguay, Gabriela Hearst honored her family's legacy by founding her eponymous label in 2015—of which she will also remain at the head—after taking over her father's ranch. Aiming to create products made with the greatest care and detail, she favored a slower creation process, where tradition is more important than trend. Always wishing to produce modern collections without compromising her ethics or core values, she promotes what she calls "luxury with conscience" or "honest luxury." Her elegant designs, which center around eco-responsibility and sustainability, have already won the hearts of several notable faces, including soon-to-be First Lady Jill Biden.

Since her introduction into the industry, Hearst has continued to climb the fashion ladder. She has won the 2017 International Woolmark Prize for International Womenswear and the American Womenswear Designer of the Year Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2020. Outside of fashion, Hearst sits on the Board of Directors of Save the Children, an NGO defending children's rights.

Hearst's first collection for Chloé will be presented in March 2021.
