Rising Basketball Star Victor Wembanyama Is Louis Vuitton’s Newest Ambassador
The French NBA rookie is announced as the fashion house's newest ambassador.
With it being a few days shy of Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton has French basketball player Victor Wembanyama as its newest ambassador.
Hailing from the western Parisian suburb of Le Chesnay, Wembanyama began playing for his hometown team, Nanterre 92. He then emerged as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft for the San Antonio Spurs. Within his first season with the Spurs, Wembanyama proceeded to win numerous titles, including Most Valuable Player, Best Young Player of the Year, and Leading Scorer and is now a favorite for the Rookie of the Year title.
Wembanyama isn't the first athlete to be named an ambassador for Louis Vuitton, with tennis player Carlos Alcaraz and swimmer Leon Marchand among the many famed athletes to represent the brand.
"Striving for excellence and with a perpetual honing of craft, Victor joins Louis Vuitton on a journey of shared values and aligned ambitions. Like Louis Vuitton himself, the young athlete has blazed a trail, excelling in a career that is only just beginning," the brand said in a press release.
As the luxury brand's parent group, LVMH Moët Hennessy, gears up in preparation as a sponsor for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the decision to choose a rising athlete doesn’t come as a surprise considering Wembanyama, a member of the French national team, hopes to compete in the games.
Wembanyama was previously seen wearing a sleek Vuitton suit to the 2023 NBA draft.
