The Mexican-American actress first appeared on screens in the 1989 telenovela Teresa&nbsp;before moving to Los Angeles and becoming a Hollywood starlet.&nbsp;
She appeared in films such as Desperado (1995) and Dogma (1999), as well as the George <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/amal-clooney-style-moments-george-clooney-kids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clooney</a> flick From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). Her real breakthrough came in 2002 when she starred in and produced Frida, a biopic about <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/frida-kahlo-quotes-artist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Frida Kahlo</a>. The film went on to grab six <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/every-look-2021-oscars-red-carpet-academy-awards" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Academy Award</a> nominations, including Best Actress.&nbsp;
The following year, Hayek had her directorial debut with The Maldonado Miracle&nbsp;and earned herself a Daytime <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/full-list-2021-emmy-award-nominations-mj-rodriquez-nominees" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emmy</a> for Outstanding Directing. Since then, she's maintained a steady stream of parts in blockbusters like Grown Ups (2010)&nbsp;and The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017), as well as an executive producer role on the TV show Ugly Betty (2006-2010).
Outside of acting, Hayek is a staunch <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/why-hollywood-s-leading-actresses-are-wearing-black-to-the-golden-globes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">feminist</a>, wife to French billionaire <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/influential-fashion-families-hermes-fendi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fran&ccedil;ois-Henri Pinault</a>, breastfeeding advocate, and frequent cosmetics spokesperson. She was also one of the women to speak out against <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-harvey-weinstein-story-is-heading-for-the-big-screen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvey Weinstein</a> during his public reckoning in 2017. That year, Hayek published an op-ed in the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/13/opinion/contributors/salma-hayek-harvey-weinstein.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> about her personal experiences with the producer.&nbsp;
