Paul Mescal isn’t one to shy away from a head-turning look. The Academy Award-nominee has been on a press tour for the forthcoming Gladiator II film, and he has continued to opt for classic looks at each stop. On Thursday in Dublin, the Irish actor stepped out in a custom ensemble by Gucci and flaunted a little chest via his collarless shirt. The outfit, overall, complemented the film's historical gravitas and reflects his growth as a leading man in contemporary cinema.

The Gladiator heartthrob epitomized Gucci Creative Director Sabato De Sarno’s refined vision for the Italian maison, which balances the storied heritage with contemporary elements. For this look, styled by Felicity Kay, Mescal walked the carpet in a gray herringbone tweed long coat, highlighting Gucci's expertise in tailoring and craftsmanship. He paired the piece with sharp, dark navy wool trousers and sleek black leather boots.

Mescal’s choice of Gucci complements the film’s sartorial whimsy, and this isn’t the first time on the press tour he’s done this. At the Gladiator II premiere in Sydney, Australia, Mescal’s flair was on full display when he arrived in a lightweight barley-brown custom Gucci suit that subtly referenced the wheat field scene from the first film. Kay also styled this look and paired it with a peasant-style silk crepe shirt that (again) slightly showed the chest, complete with two strings hanging down his torso.

The highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator marks a pivotal moment in Mescal’s career, as he joins an iconic legacy in film by stepping into the role of Lucius. He stars alongside two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. Scott’s original film was released in 2000—where Russell Crowe plays the vengeful Maximus—won five Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Picture. Gladiator II is set to continue the story with a fresh perspective.

As the Gladiator II press tour continues, it’s clear Paul Mescal is seizing the moment to assert his dominance across the arenas of entertainment and fashion.
