Spring/Summer 2021's handbags are all about sweet indulgence. This season, designers took inspiration from confections and softness, opting for slouchy silhouettes immersed in a pastel color palette. This isn't to say the bags of the moment are completely devoid of attitude. Take Bottega Veneta's Point bag for instance, whose triangular handle is juxtaposed with a soft body, or the muted yellow shoulder bag Acne Studios sent down the runway, punctuated with an oversized, trailing belt buckle.
Perhaps these plush handbag shapes and candy-colored shades are a reflection of how we want to feel in the current moment. Handbags often function as a security blanket, and if we're going to be toting them around, they might as well be yummy.
