Naomi Campbell Buys Her Hazmat Suits from Amazon 'In Bulk'
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Naomi Campbell opened up about how she gets her hazmat suits in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. In March, as global health concerns began to rise, Campbell made headlines with her precautious airport ensemble. Nine months later, Campbell continues to don the protective gear on her outings. "I bought them in bulk and I bought them on subscription, so they keep coming," she said about her suits. “There was one point when my subscription hadn’t come because they’d run out, and I panicked, even though I wasn’t going anywhere.”
While her new bacteria-blocking attire may not be her chicest look, her airport hazmat suit has been donated to the Fashion Museum Bath in England. The model revealed the news on an episode of "Hot Ones" on Youtube. The fashion icon told host Sean Evans, “I’ve been asked to put my hazmat suit into a museum. They asked me for the one that I actually wore and my Burberry cape that I put on top of it."
“It was funny because when I first wore one people were like, ‘She should give that to the hospital. Why’s she stealing?’ They were acting like I was stealing supplies from the hospital," continued the supermodel. "So I started answering back, saying, ‘I got it on Amazon! I got it on Amazon!’ I bought it fair and square on the internet.”
While in lockdown, Campbell has made full use of her time by launching her Youtube series "No Filter with Naomi" where she has interviewed celebrity guests from Mariah Carey to Virgil Abloh. Recently, Campbell attended Arise Fashion Week in Lagos, Nigeria to support emerging African designers and models. 30 under-30 designers were invited to showcase their work in the New Stars contest for a $500,000 grant as well as a mentorship to help further their brand. After two days of fashion shows, designer Kenneth Ize, for whom Campbell has modeled in the past, took home the grand prize, while genderless, sustainable label Lagos Space Programme and artsy-cool brand Mmuso Maxwell were the runners up.
Campbell, who has championed African talent in the fashion industry for years, shared a video from the event on her Instagram, thanking the organizers for their hardwork and congratulating the finalists. She said in the caption, "WE ARE NOT A TREND, WE ARE HERE TO STAY, AFRICA STRONG."
