On Wednesday, the family of model Stella Tennant announced her recent passing, just days after her 50th birthday. "It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on 22nd December 2020," said her loved ones in a statement. "Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed."

According the BBC, a spokesperson for the police stated that there were "no suspicious circumstances" surrounding her death. However, a cause of death has yet to be released.

L'OFFICIEL's Creative Director Jen Eymère paid tribute to Tennant on Instagram by sharing her first magazine cover ever, for L'OFFICIEL Paris. She said in the caption, "Rest In Peace Stella tennant, here in the nineties, her first cover ever was for @lofficielparis."

The model first came to prominence in the '90s with the likes of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. She was known for her androgynous look, as well as her bold septum piercing. In her career, she walked for Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, Versace, Helmut Lang, and more. Shortly after her debut, Karl Lagerfeld presented the Scotland native as the new face of Chanel, often commenting on her resemblance to the brand's founder, Coco Chanel.

In 2012, Tennant joined her fellow British supermodels Campbell and Moss at the London Olympics Closing Ceremony. The group wore a series of ensembles made specifically by British fashion designers.

Outside of her career, Tennant came from an aristocratic Scottish family—her grandparents were Andrew Cavendish, the 11th Duke of Devonshire and Deborah Mitford, a well-known English socialite. Prior to her death, Tennant lived in Scotland with her husband David Lasnet and their four children.
