Upcoming 'The Super Models' Docuseries Spotlights Four Iconic ’90s Fashion Figures

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington are supermodels, fashion icons, and now, TV stars, too. In October 2020, the four fashion figures announced The Super Models, a new docuseries project that will premiere on Apple TV+. Now, the series finally has a trailer and a release date.

"My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy, and I are extremely thrilled to share our story with the world,” Campbell wrote on Instagram. Campbell, along with Crawford, Turlington, and Evangelista, will help executive produce the series, and each model will also provide exclusive interviews and insight into their meteoric rise to fame in the fashion industry. “I’m excited to reunite with my friends to both celebrate and examine the way supermodels transcended the traditional perceptions and limits of modeling in the fashion industry through time,” Crawford said in her own Instagram post.

The series will be directed by Academy Award-winning Barbara Kopple, who is perhaps best known for her films on mining labor in rural American communities. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Documentaries, an arm of their production company Imagine Entertainment, is producing the series under an exclusive first-look deal with Apple TV. Imagine Documentaries has often explored celebrity and fame in film, and released a feature film about basketball star Dwyane Wade earlier this year.

The Super Models, however, will not be a celebrity portrait film. “I would love for people to see this as a celebration of not only our individual stories, but also to the power of friendship, dreams, and perseverance,” Evangelista wrote on Instagram. The series will begin in the ‘80s, when Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista, and Turlington first found success. Then, it will explore their collective stardom in the ’90s, and how the four friends disrupted the New York fashion scene and shaped today’s notion of the supermodel.
