The Met Gala's Best 2024 Looks Deliver More Than Just Florals For "The Garden of Time"

The Met Gala is the biggest night in fashion, and every year the annual charity event, with its star-studded guest list, plays host to memorable, awe-inducing looks that make fashion history. Dubbed the "Oscars of the East Coast," the Met Gala is widely seen as one of the world's biggest celebrations of fashion and art. In addition to the anticipated looks to grace the steps of the museum, the exhibition itself is an annual fixture for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the night of the Met Gala effectively marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibition within the Costume Institute. The Met Gala itself acts as a charity fundraiser and raises millions of dollars a year for the Costume Institute. The hosts for the 2024 Met Gala are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, and this year's guest list is equally impressive, with stars like Taylor Swift and Beyonce making an appearance. 

This year's theme is “The Garden of Time," so expect to see a sea of gorgeous floral looks adorn Hollywood's biggest stars. It must be noted that the theme, a.k.a., the dress code for the event, and the title of the exhibition are separate. This year, the exhibition at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The exhibition will celebrate 400 years of fashion history and will serve as an ode to nature and the three main areas of the earth: land, sea, and sky. The dress code, however, in “The Garden of Time" derives inspiration from J.G. Ballard's homonymous short story. While many guests interpret the theme literally, some honored the themes present in Ballard's story, such as messages of time's inevitability to end or the doom of aristocracy and wealth.
