Classic Sportswear Meets Contemporary Cool in Kim Jones' Converse Collection
Converse and Kim Jones unveil refashioned classics in a new collection that puts a modern twist on American sportswear.
In his debut Converse capsule collection, fashion designer Kim Jones merges contemporary streetwear and classic American sportswear, delivering a distinct contemporary perspective from head-to-toe. Jones is known for his work at the helm of Dior Men and his appointment as artistic director womenswear at Fendi.
"The design approach for the shoe was very straight forward," Jones reflects. "Taking a very classic shoe and then almost encasing it in something to protect it." The new Chuck 70 style reflects Jones' utilitarian approach to design with an extended rubber mid-sole and transparent TPU cage that overlays the classic canvas upper.
The collection not only features the elevated sneaker, but is completed by four accompanying garments. The first is a water-resistant parka crafted with a combination of nylon and mesh. There's also a cotton cargo pant that’s a modern take on a traditional fit with snap closures and mesh elements for breathability. A crewneck sweatshirt and a T-shirt round out the collection.
"There's an easy look to each of the pieces," Jones says. "I wanted each to be a modern version of the 'Take Ivy' vibe."
The Converse x Kim Jones collection launches globally on April 8, 2021 on converse.com as well as at select global retailers.
