Watch Kendrick Lamar's Style Evolve in 17 Photos
See the Compton-born artist's style over the years has gone from light-wash skinny jeans to Chanel jackets.
Kendrick Lamar has become one of the greatest rappers of his generation. He combines brilliant lyricism with incredible high-speed vocal melodies, drawing attention to double entendres (and sometimes, triple) within his storytelling that spans difficult truths to metaphoric images. As much as his music offers an opportunity to dissect, so does the rapper's style. His fashion game over the year shows how he's evolved as a master of a creative craft in more than music.
Lamar has evidently toyed with fashion throughout the years to find himself sartorially, aided by his longtime stylist Taylor McNeill. When he first stepped into the spotlight, the 5′ 5″ artist often opted for a street style look that reflected the West Coast vibe at the time. It was a nonchalant approach, and he wore skinny jeans with somewhat fitted tops before playing with balance, combining longer cut shirts with trousers or wearing all oversized silhouettes.
As he's grown within the music industry, Lamar has also embraced fashion and the storytelling through wardrobe. This is evident in his mix of Martine Rose, brooch-embellished Louis Vuitton suiting, and Willy Chavarria, designers which he has worn in his music videos, performances, and red carpet shows alike. His distinct yet humble style even caught the attention of luxury houses like Chanel, which invited the "Not Like Us" rapper to collaborate for its Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture show, having him composing a score for a corresponding short film.
2025 promises even more looks by Lamar, as the Pulitzer-winning artist will go on tour in 2025 and will be perform at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show on February 9. Scroll through the gallery below to see the Compton-born rapper's style evolution.
