Hermès Embraces Downtown New York
Hermès is increasing its New York presence. The legendary French brand just opened a new location, its 36th, in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District – just steps away from the Chelsea Highline. The store’s iconic layout and modern design seeks to embrace the urban, energetic downtown mentality and reaffirm the brand’s confidence in their U.S. clientele. The fashion house’s relationship with the United States dates back to the early 1930s, when Hermès opened their first store in Manhattan, and the brand is excited to connect with that same urban vitality in their new location.
Located at 46 Gansevoort Street, the new boutique is a tanned-brick behemoth with symmetrical windows outlined in black. The large, black awning beckons passersby to venture in through the glass doors. Once inside, the significant artistic detail will instantly captivate. The earthy tile mosaic draws connections to the brand’s roots, as it is actually from the original Hermès store in Paris. The wood used on the walls and furniture is sandblasted to match the neighborhood’s industrial feel.
The first floor is home to the silks, ties, leather goods, fashion accessories, and perfumes. A significant staircase breaks up the sea of high-end products and leads visitors to the second level, which hosts ready-to-wear men’s and women’s fashion, timepieces, and sophisticated home items. All of the luxurious items rest under a wide skylight that welcomes natural warmth.
Time spent at Hermès is an experience that spans far beyond the average shopping trip. It is a world of its own and moments spent with the brand are significant, meaningful, and precious. With its lively, accessible projection of iconic French style, the new Hermès boutique is right at home in today’s New York.
Hermès’ new Meatpacking district boutique is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
