Issey Miyake Draws on Rhythm and Fluidity for Men’s Fall/Winter 2025
The label's design studio team blazed a new trail for the Japanese fashion house at Paris Fashion Week, complete with models dancing and futuristic robots.
Issey Miyake's Fall/Winter 2025 menswear collection is an immersion in rhythm and fluidity, where both dance seamlessly with the brand's Japanese heritage. Unveiled during Men's Fashion Week in Paris, the collection captures the essence of movement and tradition, blending modern silhouettes with timeless craftsmanship. Each piece echoes the label's signature aesthetics, weaving flowing fabrics with intricate textures and a harmonious color palette that celebrates the spirit of Japan while pushing the boundaries of contemporary menswear.
The Parisian venue felt meditative. Framed by large, sculptural robots, the runway set the tone for a collection steeped in heritage yet brimming with innovation. Models moved with purpose, some incorporating performance art into their walks, emphasizing the interplay between the human body and clothing. A mastery of materials was on full display, with paper-like textures, layering, and recycled fabrics sculpted into bold, architectural silhouettes. These pieces, both lightweight and dynamic, seemed to move with the models, illustrating a harmony between form and movement. This collection was not just clothing. It was a celebration of tradition reimagined through the lens of modern artistry, courtesy of its current trio of creative directors: Sen Kawahara, Yuki Itakura, and Nobutaka Kobayashi.
Many designs in the collection reimagines traditional garments like the kimono, blending minimalism with modernity. Bold, monochromatic hues punctuate the collection, balanced by abstract, nature-inspired patterns that echo organic forms. Fluid silhouettes and architectural precision create a sense of movement, while the interplay of textures and fabrics reflects the enduring principles of simplicity and functionality. The collection is wearable art. While, Miyake himself passed away in 2022, the newest reveal proves his legacy lives on through the three fashion designers spearheading the label into new territory.
