Haute Couture for All: Highlights from Spring/Summer 2022 Collections
The Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture collections brought exciting collaborations, extravagant show openings, and fashion week comebacks to Paris Fashion Week. Explore the highlights from the most dynamic runways of the season.
With world class craftsmanship, escapist sentimentalities, and a reimagining of classic silhouettes, the Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture collections at Paris Fashion Week define the catalyzed energy of post-pandemic fashion.
Schiaparelli
Never abandoning its surrealist roots, Schiaparelli’s take on Haute Couture this season is celestial, sculptural, and Space Age. Though the collection is a classic color palette of black, white, and gold, the looks are striking. In gold plated bustiers decorated with orbs and sharp futuristic cuts, creative director Daniel Roseberry catapults the clothing into space, transcending the current climate of reality.
Dior
Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri expresses a reverence for Haute Couture craftsmanship in a monochromatic collection for the brand. With an array of cleanly cut ensembles, meticulously embroidered gowns, and flowing draped jumpsuits, Dior presents Haute Couture quality through simplicity.
Chanel
With an exciting opening from Monégasque royalty Charlotte Casiragli riding in on a horse, Virginie Vaird’s Chanel offers much of what is widely loved by the brand and more. It is sporty with its equestrian ensembles, it is vintage with its nods to 1920s Constructivism, and it is classically Chanel with its fresh takes on tweed.
Alexandre Vauthier
In a collection inspired by past cultural zeitgeists, Alexandre Vauthier’s Haute Couture shows a societal evolution through clothing. Vauthier presents a fashion time capsule, with 1980s power suits, glamorous silver gowns reminiscent of Old Hollywood, and timeless silk draping that makes sense in either 1920 or 2020.
Valentino
Titled “An Anatomy of Couture,” Valentino's latest collection by Pierpaolo Piccioli showcases the wonders of Haute Couture construction on a diverse set of models whose frames fit more than one mold. Elegant dresses in both neutral tones and vibrant flashes of color are tailor made to each model regardless of size or age, setting a new standard for who can be apart of runways to come.
Jean-Paul Gaultier
Joyful, unconventional, and larger than life, Y/Project’s Glenn Martens collection for Jean Paul Gaultier brings the ingenuity of 1990s Gaultier to an evolved 2020s stage. Between the 3D ripple illusion dresses and evening gowns embedded with corsets, it has the right amount of Gaultier’s grandeur aesthetic and Martens’ visionary design sensibilities.
Viktor & Rolf
Pop culture icon and long-feared ghoul Nosferatu serves as the muse for Viktor & Rolf’s collection this season. The exaggerated high neck silhouettes give each garment a foreboding edge, whether in a four piece suit or lavender silk gown. Styled with striking dark makeup and long vampiric nails, the Nosferatu legacy lives on in Haute Couture.
Fendi Couture
From womenswear creative director Kim Jones, Fendi brings a dramatic Old World storyline to the Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture runways. Fendi channels Italian regality with gowns adorned Renaissance imagery, architectural high-low silhouettes, and deep midnight blue hues throughout the collection.
