Chanel opened its Spring/Summer 2023 show with a cinematic experience voiced by Kirsten Stewart. Images from the 1961 film Last Year Marienbad by Alain Resnais were screened at the Palais Éphémère before the models took the runway. In this collection, Virgine Viard explores the freedom of movement and expression through the cannon of "allure."

“Our identities are lifelong, evolving art projects. To know who you are is to adopt an animal subject to change. It’s not a fixed notion. The mythologies that define us, that unite us, they’re ours to create,” narrated Stewart before the show commenced. For Viard, “allure” is an inner attitude, a step towards one’s fulfillment, and never making a spectacle of itself, it is elegance in motion swirling in modernity and lightness. Thus, Viard’s “allure” translates to the collection across easy, loose silhouettes made of silk and chiffon layers. The pearl and feather embellishments appear to add lightness despite looking heavy in the garments.

White and black colors painted the Chanel Spring/Summer 2023 collection through button-down tweed jackets and baggy shorts. In Viard’s imagined collage of glamor, the essence of Stewart’s style influenced the collection with pieces that are cool and edgy with lower-slung silhouettes. Viard’s modernity took a less formal approach to the Chanel look by incorporating mini handbags, wide-leg pants, and flats.
