Kim Jones Recalibrates Masculinity in Dior Men's Fall/Winter 2025
The creative director explored traditional masculinity through Christian Dior's lens, while adding modern details like satin bows.
The Dior Men's Fall/Winter 2025 collection was a triumph for Kim Jones in his attempt to recalibrate masculinity. The creative director is known for his innovation, particularly through an adoration of genderfluid fashion as his designs embrace the contemporary and reinvent the traditional to shape a modern aesthetic of men's fashion.
Jones leaned into the traditional masculine form for the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, but with a twist. Combining the ethereal with the masculine, a descending white staircase led the models gracefully down the runway of the Paris Fashion Week show. The minimalist ambiance echoed the structured, classic silhouettes Jones designed as an homage to the French fashion house's mid-century heritage. The visionary designer was inspired by Christian Dior's own "H Line" from the Fall/Winter 1954 collection, where feminine designs fit the male form.
"We believed it was time to focus on Mr. Dior again. We wanted to go back to the roots and concentrate on the quintessence of the house. There is a sense of fashion history, particularly the history of menswear, running through this collection. The shift from something quite ornate and extravagant in the eighteenth century to something more linear and utilitarian in the nineteenth, with the beginnings of modern menswear," Jones noted in his show notes.
The designs were minimalist and personified a metamorphosis seen throughout the collection. Some of the standout designs include tailored "opera" coats, leather bomber jackets, satin bows on leather boots, and silk masks that envelop the eyes. The closing look was crafted with the embroidery pulled from the Dior Spring/Summer 1948 Haute Couture collection's Pondichéry pink robe. The silks and satins guided Jones on a journey that transcends time, gender, and history all wrapped up in one collection.
The front row was as buzzy as the designs with A-list celebrities from around the world gathered at the historic Ecole Militaire to celebrate Jones' latest creative debut. Kate Moss, Robert Pattinson, J Balvin, Kieran Culkin, Gwendoline Christie, and Han So Hee were among celebrities in attendance at the opulent event.
