There's nothing like a great manicure to elevate your look without the addition of excessive accessories and jewelry. But what new nail trends are in for this season? On Instagram, Hailey Bieber expresses her girly aesthetic with glazed nails that regularly have a touch of pink. Though she's long been known for lengthy nails, Kylie Jenner is now inspiring us by shifting towards a cleaner, shorter look. Nail enthusiast Lauren (@lolo.nailedit) is showing nail lovers fresh, new designs every day, with a focus on the newest trend—jelly nails.

Manicure specialists and fashionable cilivians interested in staying ahead of the pack will want to know these six popular nail art trends as we head into the spring season.

Chrome Details

If 2023 was the year of the chrome nails trend, 2024 is the year of small chrome details. Manicurists are using a simple nail base coat or light shades, and then layering patterns, lines, and fun shapes in chrome over it. Chrome french manicures are also back in style this season thanks to It girl Hailey Bieber, offering some metallic details to the classic french tips we all love.

Chrome details don't need to be strictly gold and silver either—influencer Zoi Lerma showcased a trendy chrome pink nail look on TikTok, and many other nail experts are seen using brighter colors for this look.

Coquette Aesthetic

The coquette aesthetic has officially come for your nails. Focused on ultra-romantic styles and typically seen with lots of pink shades and bows, the style was popularized on TikTok and is now shifting towards the nail scene. Coquette nail art includes everything from bows, iridescent pearls, and playful yet elegant designs.

Influencer Melanie Graves recently came up with a nail look that incorporated the girly aesthetic with chrome detailing. By implementing shimmer, metallics, and bows into her nail design, she called these "fairy nails," which can be another take on the coquette aesthetic we all know and adore.

Jelly Nails

Jelly nails just might be the easiest nail trend to recreate this spring. Simply apply a few coats of jelly nail polish, a special type of sheer polish that gives nails a glass-like finish. If you're into a more minimalistic look but still want to get into the spring spirit, consider bright colored jelly nail polish. Some are even incorporating the 3D look on top of jelly nail polish by adding embelishments, which is a trend that began in Korea and Japan and is now going viral.

TikTok creator Lilly (@matcha_lilly) shared a tip on recreating simple jelly nails. By simply adding a few drops of pigmented nail polish into a clear nail polish bottle, you can acheive the jelly nail look in a matter of minutes.

Fun Designs

Getting bored of simple nail art? Try a more playful form of fun designs, including drawn on smiley faces and intricate patterns with mixed and matched colors.

Naho Watanabe (@_art_for_nails_by_naho), who worked at a Japanese-gel nail art studio in New York, is known for these visually appealing designs. Some of her work includes flower prints, turtle shell prints, French tips with colorful dots, abstract art designs, and even a gold beetle with gel painting. The fun design trend has endless possibilities, and it's here to stay.

3D Embelishments

Emerged from Harajuku fashion, 3D nail art will certainly make your manicure stand out. The technique behind this trend is to create as much texture as possible, and even adding jewels or other fun embelishments to seal the deal. This manicure can be done in several ways depending on your specific taste—while some like the more extravagant look, others prefer adding just a few jewels to spice things up.

Nail artist Eloisa Marie Perez (@marienailz) is an all-time 3D nail specialist. She's worked with Cardi B to create her well-known extravagant nails, and shares you should "always have cuticle oil and gel polishes."

The Minimalist

Although we love textured nails and implementing different fashion aesthetics into our designs, the minimalist manicure never goes out of style. This spring, we're seeing it all over our Instagram feeds and on the runway. Actress Hailee Steinfeld's manicure for this year's Oscars was done by celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik, whose other clients include Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lopez, and Selena Gomez. The minimal look consisted of some nude coats, along with delicately placed metallic flakes, and definitely adds to a more elegant appeal.

Jason Wu's S/S 2024 show also featured a more minimalistic approach to nail design. Nail artist Jin Soon Choi used a matte nail marker to draw simple lines and dots on a model's bare nails, sharing on Instagram "It’s simple yet impactful!"
