L'OFFICIEL Exclusive: Behind Alessandra Ambrosio's Bombshell Beauty for the amfAR Gala
Makeup artist Georgi Sandev created a radiant beauty look to complement the model's show-stopping naked dress.
Supermodel Alessandro Ambrosio stepped out on the 2021 amfAR Gala red carpet in a dazzling jeweled gown, accompanied by her stunning—and utterly achievable—beauty look.
The annual gala, held last night at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, brings together famous faces for a night of celebration and to raise funds for AIDS research and education. The former Victoria's Secret model was joined by Camila Mendes, Paris Jackson, Meg Ryan, Jeremy Scott, Addison Rae, and more. Ambrosio attended with her model boyfriend Richard Lee.
While naked dresses have become a red carpet staple, Ambrosio's Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture gown boasted dripping crystals and a structured cape detail for added elegance. The iced out look was perfect for kicking off the holiday season, and was accompanied by a tried-and-true formula for glamorous makeup: a classic cat-eye, glowing skin, and a nude lip.
Makeup artist Georgi Sandev—who works with other bombshell beauties including Candice Swanepoel, Barbara Palvin, and Vittoria Ceretti—wanted to enhance Ambrosio's natural allure while also complementing the magnificent beading on her gown. Thus, Sandev opted for a neutral palette, adding a touch of warmth to the cheeks and lips. For the latter, the artist prepped the lips with a moisturizing balm before applying Highr Collective's lipstick in Lips on Acid, a peachy-nude shade. The lipstick is in what the clean and sustainable beauty brand calls a Glow finish, giving off a luscious sheen without looking too glossy. The effect is a healthy pout that actually nourishes the lips, thanks to the lipstick's moisturizing ingredients including organic castor seed oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter.
Keeping the skin bright and glowing was also a goal, so Sandev used 111 Skin's Y Theorem Repair Serum and Celestial Black Diamond Day Cream to prime Ambrosio's face before foundation and concealer. Then, to boost the glow factor, the makeup artist reached for the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Bronze O3 and Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish Powder Blush in Nude Venus for a subtle contour before applying Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish Divine Glow to illuminate the high points. "We added highlights to the cheekbones, eyes, and body to play with the reflection of the many jewels that the dress was covered with to finish this gorgeous look," Sandev says.
As for Ambrosio's sharp cat-eye, Sandev used the Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel to create the flick, finishing the lashes with falsies and Dior's Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara.
