These days, avocados feel as common as apples. The popularity of this superfood, which just a few years ago was a lot less widespread, began at the table due to its full, buttery flavor and antioxidant powers. Avocados are chock-full of nutrients like fiber, vitamin C and E, and moreover, their strong moisturizing action. Some minerals found in avocado oil, like potassium and magnesium, help create smooth and shiny hair, while also promoting a healthy scalp and far less breakage. For these reasons, beauty aficionados and celebrities like Cardi B have begun using avocado for hair, as it can be a crafty ingredient to use in DIY beauty treatments you don't have to leave your house of break the bank for.

In fact, applying a mask using avocado for hair approximately every 10 days can transform your locks' appearance, making them healthier and brighter. Some even believe that avocado is the perfect solution for quick hair growth. While that has yet to be scientifically proven, the restructuring properties of avocado for hair are undoubted and with frequent application, the results will be undeniable. Read ahead for seven DIY avocado hair mask recipes to try at home today for healthier, smoother hair.

Restructuring Mask

To create this restructuring mask, blend half an avocado with two tablespoons of olive oil, which is also beneficial to your hair. This type of mask is full-bodied, given the thick texture of the avocado and the presence of oil. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes, and note it may require at least two shampoos to eliminate the excess oil. This is an ideal treatment to see for yourself how avocado for hair can battle frizz and dryness.

Anti-Dandruff Mask

By combining moisturizing, purifying neem oil with avocado for hair treatment, you'll find the perfect mask to battle dandruff. To start, mix half an avocado with a few drops of neem oil. The smell may not be too pleasant, so we suggest adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to help with this. Leave on for 30 minutes and then proceed with your usual shampoo and hair routine.

Transform your hair with Cardi B's simple DIY hair mask recipe. After posting this mixture on her Instagram a few years ago claiming to enhance her natural curls, the rapper had everyone trying this at home for silky, nourished hair. The ingredients include an avocado, argan oil, mayonnaise, black castor oil, olive oil, two eggs, a banana, and honey. After mixing everything to create a smoothie-like texture, leave it on your hair for 20-30 minutes and follow with your regular hair washing routine.

Conditioning Mask

The ingredients for this one are simple. You'll need one avocado, coconut oil, and some raw honey. First, slice the avocado in half and scoop the inside part. Add two tablespoons of coconut oil and two more of the raw honey. Mix everything together, lather it on the midst to ends of your hair, and let it sit for 60 minutes. In the meanwhile, consider watching a movie and making it a full on spa day.

This treatment is the simplest of them all. We can't forget about nourishing our hair's scalp—to reduce breakage and irritation, mix 1/2 a cup of cooled oatmeal and half an avocado. Make sure your hair is damp, and let it soak in for about 30 minutes before washing it all off.

Repair Mask

Combine yogurt and rosemary with your avocado for hair that shines brighter than ever. Avocado works to nourish hair while yogurt works to polish, and rosemary enhances it all by releasing natural oils. Start by mixing a whole avocado with a cup of plain yogurt. Then, add a tablespoon of olive oil and a sprig of rosemary. Leave on for 30 minutes before washing out thoroughly.

Ever heard of using avocados and bananas on your hair? Mix one-half of a ripe banana, one egg, one tablespoon of olive oil, and half an avocado with a bit of water. Apply the smooth mixture on your hair, and make sure to seal it with a hair cap for about 30 minutes. A pro tip from celebrity hair stylist Dr. Kari Williams is to wash your hair with warm water afterwards, then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo a few times to get everything out.
