Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the Secret to Gorgeous Hair
Despite hair types being unique as a fingerprint, it's safe to say a unanimous hair goal might be a soft, nourished, and healthy mane. Yet many environmental factors, such as humidity and smog, can leave our strands dry, brittle, and definitely in need of help. A natural remedy readily available is to use extra virgin olive oil for hair restoration.
The natural hair remedy originated among ancient Egyptians, who used the natural resource for its benefits in body care. Olive oil, especially EVOO, is rich in a few key nutrients: vitamin A, which prevents aging, vitamin E, which helps with the circulation of the scalp and has antioxidant powers, and fatty acids, which promote hydration. Unlike other popular healthful oils which act as a sealant without actually moisturizing skin and hair, olive oil penetrates hair deeply to moisturize each strand. It's a old-school way to practice self-care, but it works. Whether you have a work from home day or some extra time before bed, test out these three ways to use extra virgin olive oil for hair.
DIY Conditioner
Being rich in nutrients and with an oily consistency, extra virgin olive oil is an ideal natural balm for hair. In addition to having a detangling effect, it nourishes hair deeply, leaving it soft and shiny. To make an olive oil hair conditioner, heat a small bowl of oil in the microwave or over the stove for a few seconds. The temperature must be slightly warm, but not too hot. Gradually, spread the oil on all your hair, taking care to apply it strand by strand. If you have a dry scalp or are looking to promote hair growth, you can massage the olive oil into the scalp. Otherwise, proceed from mid-length. Leave for about 15 minutes and proceed with your usual shampoo routine.

DIY Restructuring Mask
Mix honey and EVOO for hair rejuvenation via a restructuring mask. Both hyper-nutritious, these two ingredients must be mixed in a bowl in equal parts (3 tablespoons of oil, 3 tablespoons of honey). Before shampooing, apply the mixture from mid-length to the ends of your hair. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for half an hour, then proceed with your regular shampoo routine. Since this is a particularly oily mask, it may be necessary to do two or more rinses, but the soft, shiny result will be worth it.

Split Ends Treatment
Who knew you could use EVOO for hair serum, too? As one final hack, apply olive oil as a treatment for split ends. Apply a few drops with your fingertips right on the tips of your hair, and let it set overnight. While this method does not replace getting a haircut, which is the ultimate treatment for damaged ends, extra virgin olive oil certainly strengthens the hair while providing a temporary solution. Think of it as the moisture equivalent to rocking grown-out roots.
