For those who need a push to ditch the corporate world to pursue their dream job, Sami Miró may be the poster woman you never knew you needed. Just a handful of years ago, the 32-year-old Santa Clara University graduate, who also holds a masters in marketing from the University of San Francisco, left behind her marketing job at a tech startup in San Francisco to work as a model, vintage curator, and eventually, a designer in Los Angeles.
“I went to business school, but there is a huge difference between learning how to write a business plan and actually making it come to fruition in real life,” says Miró, who found success relatively quickly after pivoting career tracks. “You have to be ready to wear every hat, big and small, never stop working, be smart with your money, understand and respect both the business and creative sides, and build a company with a foundation that you truly believe in.”
It didn’t hurt that soon after changing vocations, Miró began dating her former paramour and one of her first clients, Zac Efron, but that wasn’t the only thing that helped to get her name out there. In the spring of 2016, she launched Sami Miró Vintage, which quickly attracted fans like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Selena Gomez, who wore the Valentina bodysuit on her Revival tour.
Miró's growing fanbase may remember that in 2017, she collaborated with Forever 21 on two different occasions: first, to curate a collection of vintage one-offs that sold out soon after launching; then, Miró designed a cohesive collection of vintage-inspired affordable pieces. Both collections sold out soon after they were launched.
There are “a ton of exciting drops, collabs, and launches” on the horizon, Miró says, but “of course I’m unable to share them all or I’d be revealing all my secrets. My first collaboration of the year is Heron Preston x Sami Miró Vintage SS 2020. Our 30-piece collection launches online and in retailers all over the world in February 2020. Sami Miró Vintage also has a ton of drops happening from January on.”
A good place to keep up with Miró's constantly expanding empire is, unsurprisingly, her Instagram (@samimiro), which has attracted more than 230k followers. A millennial businesswoman who is also “skewed by a background working in the corporate world,” Miró takes a personal and professional approach to her social media. “I have an understanding that what I may post on social media today can affect me tomorrow,” Miró says sagely. “Being an entrepreneur with the desire to be respected and taken seriously by conglomerates while also being admired by the youth makes me want to push boundaries and express myself in an authentic way without showing too much skin.”
L'Officiel teamed up with famed astrologist Susan Miller to predict each zodiac sign's future for the new year. Miller sees that Libras will be moving in 2020, or at least focusing on the home. Match your interior endeavors with a little paint for your face, or go for gorgeous shine on the lip like Miró so you'll glow as you welcome friends into your revamped space.
