After last year's sold-out fair, Frieze New York returns to the city with a bang this May. Featuring over 65 contemporary galleries in the city and talented young artists, Frieze New York, led by director Christine Messineo, will also feature unique events and pop-ups. L'OFFICIEL has put together the ultimate guide to the events you don't want to miss at this one-weekend-only fair.

What are Frieze and Frieze NYC?

In 1991, Frieze launched its contemporary art and culture magazine and grew to stage four major international art fairs, including Frieze London, Frieze Masters, Frieze Los Angeles, and Frieze New York in 2012. Focused on contemporary and modern galleries, Frieze New York is the perfect place to buy pieces from up-and-coming artists worldwide. Unique to other art fairs, Frieze New York has rigorous programming and exclusive events with themed shows, gallery presentations, and spotlights on up-and-coming artists. This year, Frieze New York celebrates the creativity and perseverance of the city.

Frame is an initiative started by Frieze dedicated to solo projects from galleries that are ten years old or younger. Intended to spotlight rising stars in the art world, this year's Frame at Frieze comprises 11 galleries, including international participants from São Paulo, Shanghai, Tehran, and Paris. Advised by gallerists Olivia Barrett (Château Shatto, Los Angeles) and Sophie Mörner (Company Gallery, New York), this year's Frame section features works from artists who may never have benefitted from major international platforms before, including those featured in L'OFFICIEL's 15 Young Artists to Watch list, Yan Xinyue, Emma McIntyre, and Su Yu-Xin. While many participating institutions are international, you can view pieces in the city at Lubov Gallery, Lomex Gallery, and Company Gallery.
