Brett Heyman is Lighting Up This Holiday Season With Flower by Edie Parker
The Edie Parker founder speaks with L'OFFICIEL about the best cannabis-friendly gifts and how to incorporate Flower into your festivities.
From glass pipes that look like fruit to bongs that double as decor, Flower by Edie Parker encourages you to put weed paraphernalia on display—whether you toke or not. For founder Brett Heyman, the accessories make a fun holiday gift and conversation piece.
“The fruit pipes are incredible. If you smoke, you’ll love them, use them, and if you don’t, it’s such a cool object to have on a shelf or coffee table. If you buy multiples, it can make an amazing fruit bowl (lot’s of play on words there),” Heyman tells L’OFFICIEL. For a show-stopping present for the weed enthusiast in your life, Heyman suggests one of the colorful glass bongs made in collaboration with New York-based artist Paul Arnhold. The pieces are handmade by Arnhold, thus making them one-of-a-kind creations at the intersection of art and function. Heyman has her own on display as a vase.
Another gifting option that merges Heyman’s knack for stylish accessories with her love of weed is Edie Parker’s Bodega Bag. The mini-sized nylon tote comes in three eye-catching color ways, features an oversized “Weedie Parker” tag, and can be customized with a name, initials, or anything else. Sold under the main Edie Parker label, which Heyman founded in 2010 and is known for its novel acrylic bags, the handbag is an unapologetic nod to its sister line.
“Having cannabis around just makes things a bit more fun,” Heyman says. The holidays are a time for indulgence, and for those that enjoy marijuana, why not make it a part of the festivities? Heyman enjoys lighting up to set the mood. “I went to the CFDA Awards and I brought a bag full of joints and passed them around,” she shares. “Even though it's legal, it still feels like there's a bit of a naughty element. People get excited, it makes everybody a little loose, it's fun to share, so I think having cannabis at a party is very enjoyable.”
Even if it does come with a bit of a taboo, Heyman has seen the immense amount of growth in the weed industry since launching Flower by Edie Parker in 2019. “You can't ignore the conversation around legalization and the fact that cannabis was deemed essential in all of the states where it's legal during the pandemic, the fact that it's the fastest growing job creator in the country, the fact that it created $3 billion in revenue over the past year, and the fact that nobody has ever overdosed from it.”
As a woman-owned cannabis brand with an all-female team, Flower by Edie Parker also recognizes the role women play in the weed world—women are the fastest growing category of cannabis users. Moreover, Heyman seeks to support women and children affected by the war on drugs through the Edie Parker Foundation. Its primary giving partner is the Women’s Prison Association, which helps women and their families reintegrate into life after incarceration. Heyman is also a board member of the Beehouse Justice Initiative, which aims to aid those affected by the disparate enforcement of cannabis prohibition. “What's so great about the cannabis community is that there is this demand,” Heyman says. “Brands and companies demand it of themselves, and the consumers demand this sort of responsible participation.”
Thus, shopping Flower by Edie Parker isn’t just for the luxury weed experience, it supports a woman-owned company in a male-dominated industry, and can also assist in giving back to the community. For those that want to check out the shiny rolling trays, cute pipes, and chic lighters in person, the Flower by Edie Parker store re-opened this week at 21 Bond Street in Manhattan. Heyman assures the boutique is, “super fun and a place where people are encouraged to ask forgiveness and not permission to smoke cannabis.”
