This Florist Makes the Most Beautiful Floral Arrangements in Paris
Defining himself as a lyrical florist, Muse enchants the capital with his poetic compositions.
Nestled in the historic heart of the French capital, in the middle of the cobbled streets of Montmartre, the Muse floristry boutique delights passers-by and regulars. In Paris, the institution has made a name for itself thanks to a floral signature that is inspired by baroque and classic, with an always contemporary twist. Getting to know the designer behind these floral wonders, L'OFFICIEL met with Majid Mohammad as he talked about his passion for floral and his biggest creative inspirations.
L'OFFICIEL: Where did this passion for flowers come from?
Majid Mohammad: I started more than 20 years ago in the flower industry, before wanting to bring a more artistic vision to the profession. It was time for me to create my own brand, Muse, to make my world known. Being from the Middle East, I opted for a Westernized approach to the florist profession. It's a job that I love, punctuated by passion and love.
L'O: How would you define the Muse signature?
MM: These are essentially cutting-edge compositions, which are part of rather baroque and dense universes. I like to bring in contemporary elements, which contrast with a certain classicism. The heart of my work also focuses on the color, textures, and movements of plants. All my bouquets are unstructured, you will never find round ones! Finally, I love being inspired by the wild and English gardens.
L'O: Your floral creations are all unique and yet all identifiable. How do you get inspiration?
MM: I find inspiration in art, paintings — particularly Dutch painters — various objects, classical music... My neighborhood, Montmartre, is also very inspiring, with its historical heritage, its beautiful height over the City of Lights, and the aura of all the artists who have already been there. I am very spontaneous in my work, and an idea can also come from a flower found at the market. When I shop, when I visit my suppliers, I like to be on the lookout for the beautiful, the strange, for everything that can convey an emotion.
L'O: You have made a great reputation for yourself in Paris. Who are your clients?
MM: I create compositions for all kinds of events — from the most classic to the most prestigious. Whether it's requests for weddings, births, for local customers in Montmartre, or even the staging of plants for editorial shoots! I love having fun with floral design... At other times, like during Fashion Weeks, or for thank-you bouquets, major luxury houses and smaller labels can call on me. Among them, I can cite Chanel, Dior, or Maison Martin Margiela.
