Mr. C Coconut Grove is a Nautical Miami Escape
Miami meets Coastal Italy at the luxury boutique hotel.
Miami is known for many things—Spring Breakers in South Beach, an abundance of Art Deco architecture, Art Basel’s citywide takeover, and now an attempt at becoming the nation’s crypto capital. Coconut Grove, by contrast, has largely remained a peaceful respite—a lush oasis of high-end shops, restaurants, and residences. Now, largely thanks to Mr. C, the recently-opened boutique hotel by Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani, the area has quickly become Miami residents’ chosen spot to see and be seen.
And there is plenty to see, from the Arquitectonica-designed exterior which takes inspiration from the Stiltsville houses off the Florida cape, to the nautical, coastal Italian look of the six-story hotel’s interiors, designed by Martin Brudnizki. “This hotel is very much influenced by classical yacht design in its use of materiality and the shapes of the furniture,” says Brudnizki. “We wanted to capture the timeless charm of Italy’s iconic coastal style…We’ve then added a layer of mid-century Italy, as Murano glass chandeliers hang above large-scale terrazzo floors. The combination of the shapes and materiality of the mid-century yacht-style works perfectly with Miami, a city famous for its oceanfront and also one famous for its own modernist architectural style.”
Views of Sailboat Bay and the coastline are best taken in from the hotel’s rooftop, where you’ll find a pool, private cabanas, and the always chic Bellini restaurant, a favorite among well-heeled Coconut Grove residents and international travelers alike. After a long day on the beach or shopping in the Design District, a visit to the hotel's BēAtala wellness suite is a must. More a private treatment experience than full-on spa, BēAtala offers bespoke face and body treatments based on individual need. The spa’s signature is a facial pioneered by renowned aesthetician Pietro Simone, which includes a cotton thread that glides across the skin for next-level glow.
Off-property, a lively rooftop scene can also be found at MILA, the Mediterranean-Japanese fusion restaurant, lounge, and mixology bar by Riviera Dining Group. Since its opening in 2020, the “MediterrAsian” restaurant has become a staple of the Miami social scene, offering a combination of refined dining and nightlife ambiance (complete with the occasional fire dancer). The hospitality group behind MILA recently announced Michelin-starred chef Michael Michaelidis as Head of Culinary, who will bring a reimagined menu with inspiration from his French and Greek roots.
