Lutetia Paris Hotel Enters a New Era
Nestled in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, the Lutetia Paris has long been a refuge for the city’s famous figures. Counting Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis, and Sonia Rykiel among its guests, the property is one of the Left Bank’s only true luxury hotels.
The Set Collection group, which bought the Lutetia in 2010, set out to preserve the hotel’s original Art Nouveau charm while giving it a modern touch, entrusting the hotel’s transformation to architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.“ [Wilmotte] revived what was hidden and reinvented what no longer existed,” said the group in a statement.
Stained glass, decorative paintings, mosaics, and sculptures have been restored. The layout of the ground floor was altered to include an interior courtyard, allowing light to enter the spaces. The hotel features seven floors and 184 luxurious rooms, including three suites inspired by some of the property's most iconic guests: Francis Ford Coppola, Isabelle Huppert, and Josephine Baker.
The historic hotel is a popular meeting spot for locals as well, thanks to the famous Brasserie Lutetia under the direction of chef Patrick Charvet; Le Saint-Germain, the hotel’s all-day dining room topped with a sublime glass roof by the artist Fabrice Hyber; and the Bar Joséphine, whose cutting-edge mixology by head bartender Nicola Battafarano will leave visitors with delicious memories.
