Eames Celebrates 80 Years of Excellence with Tokyo Exhibition
Herman Miller, Reebok, and Ravensburger collaborate with the historic architectural design firm in a celebration of modern excellence.
After nearly a century of influential excellence, Charles and Ray Eames are celebrating 80 Years of Design with an exhibition at contemporary gallery Isetan The Space in Tokyo. The exhibition features "pivotal works alongside special projects and collaborations that continue to bring Charles and Ray’s powerful ideas to life today" says Eames Demetrios, Director of the Eames Office.
From November 5, 2021 to January 5, 2022, Isetan will host an array of timeless Eames designs including a 1943 Molded Plywood Sculpture reproduction, special edition Herman Miller furniture, and architectural models of Case Study No. 8 House and the never-built 1951 Eames Modular House.
Japan inspired Charles and Ray’s career, influencing their approach to modernity with simplistic, clean lines, while their partnership with Isetan dates back to 1961. Other iconic works will be on display, including revivals of archival designs.
The exhibition also includes fan favorites, including the Eames Elephant, Ray's early artworks reproduced in limited edition prints, and brand new Charles and Ray’s puzzles designed by long-time collaborator Ravensburger.
New collaborators include Reebok, who has reimagined its Club C sneaker with exclusive special edition designs. Globe, a skateboard brand, is utilizing two eucalyptus trees removed from Eames’ property to create 100 limited edition skateboard decks, while Art of Play is issuing a new set of Eames-inspired playing cards.
Honoring the global influence of Eames, all of the products will be available internationally through Isetan.
