Spend Christmas in London in a Cozy Getaway at the Bloomsbury Hotel
London is always a good idea, especially if you're staying in a hotel as cozy as a box of Fortnum & Mason cookies like the Bloomsbury Hotel.
Less than 10 minutes from St. Pancras International and Piccadilly, the Bloomsbury district has not yet given into the tourist influx. Quiet parks, wooded plots, Victorian buildings, the British Museum...it feels like a Floch & Rivière comic book. This is the ideal place to appreciate the British capital while staying at the Bloomsbury Hotel. Behind its red brick walls which dominate Great Russell Street, the most beautiful London establishment of the Irish group Doyle Collection has been recently renovated by interior designer Martin Brudnizki. It offers everything one could seek during a stay in London, from the proximity of iconic sites to the comfort of a well-kept home.
Walk up one flight of stairs and push open the door of this beautiful building built in 1928 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The interior conforms to the spirit of the neo-Georgian style dear to one of the most famous architects of the 1930s. The first example of this cozy British atmosphere: the Sitting Room. To the right of the entrance facing the reception, it invites you to sit in one of the deep armchairs and read the newspaper in front of the fireplace or have tea while admiring the magnificent floral wallpaper signed by Zoffany.
If the 153 rooms and suites display the same reassuring cocoon spirit, they multiply the atmospheres and colors. Our favorites are the junior suites on the third floor, which contain English green walls, soft rugs, silky fabrics, superb bathrooms in Italian marble, and black-and-white mosaic.
Open from breakfast to dinner, the Dalloway Terrace is a restaurant like few in London. A place that changes atmosphere according to the seasons, it houses a sunny terrace in the summer when the removable roof is opened and a secret garden in the winter. Each season has its own decoration that matches that of the holidays.
If the Bloomsbury Club Bar has retained a decor in keeping with the Speakeasy of the 1930s, the best place to have a drink and appreciate the talent of the bartenders is the magnificent Coral Room. Recently transformed into a trendy bar, this large room has been repainted with that coral hue that the architect of the building liked so much. A daring decorative choice but one that pleases since the Coral Room is already the place to have a drink in the evening.
