Growing up as the youngest of three girls in an all-around athletic family, Smith was born to be a winner as she led each team she played for from high school to the NCAA to a championship title. After she forewent the rest of her collegiate eligibility to go pro. Three years later, at only 22 years old, she was called up by the USWNT to play in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
In the midst of her World Cup debut, #11 Sophia Smith carries with her a legacy characterized by companionship and female empowerment throughout the difficult road ahead. After having played alongside her kindergarten teammate Jaelin Howell in an exhibition match against the Netherlands in 2020, Smith became the second-youngest player to score multiple goals in a World Cup match since 2003. With this title and a collection of others, Smith sports the USA jersey as she continues to make a name for herself as one of the youngest competitors on the U.S. Women's National Team.
