Sharon Stone Reveals Britney Spears Asked for Her Help in 2007
The 63-year-old actress opened up about a letter she received from Spears during the peak of her troubles with the media.
While promoting her new memoir The Beauty of Living Twice, Sharon Stone revealed that Britney Spears once sent her a letter back in 2007 asking for help. While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Stone explained that the singer wrote "a very long and important, poignant letter" asking for the actress' help around the time that Spears famously shaved her head.
However, Stone, too, was battling her own struggles at the same time. "I was in a very difficult time of my life and I couldn’t help myself, but the truth of the matter is we both needed help. She needed help. I needed help," explained the actress.
Last week, Spears posted several photos on Instagram of women that inspire her, including one of a young Stone. "These are the women that have truly inspired my life," she wrote in the caption. "These cool ladies always add a spark to my day."
While speaking to Clarkson, Stone continued, "The true fact of it is it’s very hard to be a very successful woman and not have everyone controlling you—taking your finances and handling you. And women, and I’m sure all of the young stars get handled, and you get handled so much."
Much of Stone's memoir touches on her own experiences as a woman in Hollywood which often including being coerced or mistreated by men in positions of power. The recent Framing Britney Spears documentary reviewed the singer's own life and career in a similar light. The documentary highlights interviewers, talk show hosts, comedians, and romantic partners that oversexualized or misrepresented her, as well as her father's controversial conservatorship over her and her estate for the last 13 years.
"There’s a huge breaking point and there’s a point when you get broken," explained Stone. "The thing with Britney Spears is so out of control and so awful and I can say certainly it’s been very out of control and it’s been awful more than once in my life and I have certainly had it. It’s very complicated to take control of your life. It’s very hard to get control of your finances."
