An Italian volleyball player transferred more than $750,000 to the back account of a woman pretending to be Alessandra Ambrosio.

Roberto Cazzaniga, an Italian volleyball player, believed for 15 years that he was dating Brazilian model <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/exclusive-alessandra-ambrosio-amfar-gala-red-carpet-makeup" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alessandra Ambrosio</a>. Spoiler alert: he wasn't.
Cazzaniga, who plays for a second division team in Italy's volleyball league, was introduced to his future girlfriend in 2008 through a friend, who gave a woman named Maya the phone and said she was interested in getting closer to him. But Maya used photos of Ambrosio to pass off as pictures of herself. This type of crime, where someone pretends to be someone else, is known as catfishing.

The story gets even worse as Cazzaniga revealed on a television program that he transferred around more than $780,000 to his supposed girlfriend after she claimed to have accounts frozen due to problems with an inheritance. In order not to have physical or video contact, the imposter claimed that she had a heavy work routine and suffered from serious heart disease.
Cazzaniga's colleagues, who describe him as an introverted and naive man, felt this was a scam and insisted that the case be investigated. So far, three people are involved in the scheme: Manuela, who passed on the contact of &ldquo;Maya," Manuela's boyfriend, and a 50-year-old woman, who lives in Sardinia, named Valeria, and who pretended to be Ambrosio in the phone calls.
