Kylie Jenner Fights in Court with Kylie Minogue Over Name Copyright
In 2014, Kylie Jenner wanted to register her name as a trademark but was prevented by singer Kylie Minogue. In a recent interview with Andy Cohen, Minogue recounts how the trial went.
A couple of years ago, Kylie Minogue got into a legal battle with the youngest sister of the Kardashian-Jenner family, Kylie Jenner over her name. Kylie Jenner wanted to register the word "Kylie" as a brand for her companies in the fashion and beauty industries in 2014 but was prevented by the singer. The request was denied by the Patent and Trademark Office after Minogue's legal team intervened.
During a recent interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Minogue commented on how the legal battle went. “When they called me Kylie… I think I met a person older than me called Kylie, but it's kind of unusual. It was just business, obviously. I've spent my entire life building and protecting my brand, so it was something that had to be done. But let me just say that we came to an agreement.”
Andy Cohen then asked her, "Did you have to call Kris Jenner and say 'Let me tell you something?'" to which Minogue replied, "No, but I'd love to meet them."
At the time, Minogue's representatives claimed that she was an internationally renowned performance artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist. Her name and kylie.com were registered in 1996. The fight was brought to light by the singer's lawyers, who classified Jenner as a secondary reality TV personality.
