Katy Perry Reveals Why She Hasn't Married Orlando Bloom Yet
After five years of being engaged, the pop singer explained why the couple hasn't married yet.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are one of Hollywood's most prominent couples, having maintained a strong and lasting engagement now for almost five years. Those who are not pop culture junkies may not realize that Orlando Bloom is technically not yet Katy Perry's husband—they have yet to wed.
Bloom and Perry announced their engagement in 2019 after three years of dating. However, after being engaged for nearly five years, there appears to be no big rush toward a wedding. Despite rumors suggesting Perry may be hesitant about marrying Bloom, the pop star dismissed these claims, stating she wants to wait for the perfect opportunity to exchange vows in a remote and meaningful location. The postponement of a wedding ceremony seems to be the result of a culmination of factors like COVID-19 concerns, and then the pregnancy and birth of their daughter, Daisy, who is now three years old. Perry gave a first-hand look at raising their daughter in a recent cover story with L'OFFICIEL.
As of 2024, the couple often are seen in public together, most recently at the 10th annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, which honors accomplishments in math and science, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Perry posted several pictures with Bloom from the event on Instagram, captioning her post, "y = mx + b ... Mom and Dad at the #BreakthroughAwards @breakthrough."
With the COVID-19 pandemic making travel hard, Perry explained that their "party far from home" has delayed her wedding plans. "We're still trying to make it work, [but] every two months it's like: new variant! New variant!" she said in an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
Bloom proposed to Perry over dinner in February of 2019. "I thought we were going to see some kind of art after the meal, but we boarded a helicopter. We had champagne and the ring box was in his jacket pocket." Perry said.
By March 2020, Perry announced she was expecting a baby with Bloom. "I'm excited. We're thrilled, and it's probably the longest secret I've ever had to keep," she said during an Instagram Live. "I like to share everything with you all, but I knew I wanted to reveal this news through a song because that's how I communicate best."
Perry often shares new insights about their daughter, Daisy, and is excited to spend more time with her when she officially departs from American Idol after the season finale. As for the possibly soon-to-be-married couple, it's clear the love is lasting, wedding ring or not.
