Remembering Julia Fox's Art Career
Before stepping into her destiny as a muse, actress Julia Fox was once the artist herself.
Julia Fox has lived many lives. Between being a former dominatrix, a New York City party girl, an ex-girlfriend of Ye, and Josh Safdie's muse for the film Uncut Gems, her art career is often eclipsed by her many other exciting ventures.
In a gallery entitled R.I.P. Julia Fox, the artist presented a multimedia exhibition that explored taboo themes of sex, death, sorrow, and the metaphysical. Fox utilized her own blood on a medium of silk canvases to portray herself in various states of reality. A ritual setup adorned with candle vigils also suggested Fox's flirtation with death. She also displayed some of her photography, which carried the same intimate undertones of eternal rest in her art.
Fox's photography extended beyond her art gallery. In 2015 and 2016, she self-published two photography books Symptomatic of a Relationship Gone Sour: Heartburn/Nausea and PTSD respectively. Her work was prolific and provocative, depicting scenes of sexuality, drug use, heartbreak, and other debaucherous activities.
Recently Fox has dabbled in a new creative outlet: directing. In 2021, she wrote and directed Fantasy Girls, a short film following the story of teenage girls swept up in a trafficking ring in Reno.
Several years have passed since the release of her photography books and the debut showing of R.I.P. Julia Fox in New York City, and still, Fox seemingly continues to be reborn into someone new every time she returns to the scene.
