Gigi Hadid Arrested for Marijuana Possession
Gigi Hadid has been arrested for drug possession in the Cayman Islands.
Gigi Hadid has now joined the list of celebrity arrests.
According to TMZ, Hadid was "arrested and charged with possessing pot and drug paraphernalia" after she went to the Cayman Islands last week. While going through customs at the airport, her luggage was searched and found with a small amount of weed.
The drug possession was found to be utilized for personal use, but Hadid and her travel partner, Leah Nicole McCarthy, were still arrested under the charges of "importation of marijuana and importation of utensils to smoke the cannabis," per TMZ.
According to Hadid's rep who spoke to E! News, “Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license."
The rep continued, "It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island."
Both women have since been released and fined $1,000 after pleading guilty. From what we know, neither of their records have a conviction on it.
The supermodel and her friend haven't appeared to let their temporary legal troubles affect them, as they both still took to Instagram to post a carousel of photos from their vacation.
Hadid's arrest comes shortly after Zayn Malik, her ex-boyfriend and father of her 2-year-old child, made headlines as he had his first interview in almost six years on the Call Her Daddy podcast. During his interview, the former One Direction member addressed his infamous altercation with Yolanda Hadid, in which he allegedly grabbed her and shoved her into a dresser.
"I knew what the situation was, I knew what happened, and the people involved knew what happened too and that's all I really cared about,” he said. "If anybody of a sane mind would look at the situation, I believe you could respect that I just didn't want to bring attention to anything, y'know? I wasn't trying to get into a negative back and forth with her."
He continued, "Any sort of narrative online where my daughter was going to look back and read that and be able to read into it and it would just be something that was… There was no point. I believe I dealt with it in the best way. In an amicable, respectful way, and that's all that needs to be said.”
Hadid and Malik currently co-parent in raising their daughter, with both being very hands-on and having 50/50 custody.
