Coming in with her now-iconic tower of curls and chic style, lead singer of the ‘60s' most popular Motown group, The Supremes, Diana Ross, brought an exciting and fresh new look to the girl group that defined the era’s glitz and glam.

With chart-topping songs with The Supremes' “Stop in the Name of Love” and solo hits like “I'm Coming Out,” Ross never failed to showcase her glamorous style and beauty, rapidly becoming a representation of the late ‘60s soul genre and an eduring icon.

Breaking barriers with their matching bright, embellished gowns and doll-like makeup, The Supremes were acclaimed for their extravagant wardrobe as no other Black girl group had ever worn similar looks on stage before.

Aside from her successful musical career, Ross was also an actress. Starring as fashion designer Tracy Chambers in the 1975 film Mahogany allowed the singer to showcase her inner fashionista as she participated in the film as both actress and costume designer. Fittingly, before becoming a worldwide singer, Ross had wanted to become a fashion designer. Her itch for style is something she passed on to daughter Tracee Ellis Ross, who has a similar flair for fashion as her mom.

From bold hairstyles all the way to her distinctive shoe choices, Ross' show-stopping approach translated into unforgettable fashion moments throughout her career. In celebration of her 77th birthday, L’OFFICIEL looks back at the singers’ most fashionable moments on and off the stage.
