What is the Meaning Behind Oscar Winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph's Diamond Nails?
Hint: The Holdovers and The Idol actor pays homage to those who came before her with diamonds.
At the 2024 Oscars, actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph has a special message to the other 26 Black women who are also nominated for best supporting actress at the prestigious award ceremony, and that message is painted, and embellished on her nails. Randolph won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mary Lamb, a bereaved mother in the film, The Holdovers, which recently garnered Randolph several coveted accolades for her performance, including a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award. For each nominee, Randolph has one diamond glued to her nails in honor of and in solidarity with all of the 26 other Black nominees who are up for the same award in the past.
Randolph's gown is a halter-cut baby blue gown embellished in sequins with a sheer train and feather sleeves that bring extra drama to the starlet’s red-carpet look.
