Cara Delevingne Opens Up About Growing Up Queer
The model has openly identified as genderfluid since 2018.
Cara Delevingne is part of the new generation of celebrities who have no problem discussing and debating the nuances of their sexuality openly and publicly. The actress and model identifies as pansexual, that is, someone who is sexually, romantically, or emotionally attracted to people, regardless of their sex or gender identity.
Despite feeling more confident today, in an interview with The Times, Cara, alongside her sisters Poppy and Chloe Delevingne, said that she felt isolated growing up while identifying as a "queer" child. “My sisters did their best to be there for me, but it was something I had to go through myself to really know who I was. I'm still on this journey and will continue to be for the rest of my life," explained the Suicide Squad actress.
“First and foremost, I've always seen myself as a rebel, not as someone who wants to break the rules, but as someone who wants to question them. I love the word disobedient. To me, it means someone who questions what they're told. I think at this point I can be the most mischievous of the three of us," she said.
In addition, she credits her different professions as a tool for self-knowledge. "As a model, I always felt like I was acting. I was constantly trying to fit a mold, but with acting, I was able to understand and navigate my own relationship with emotions," she added.
