It's not just royals who know how to organize a beautiful wedding. Ivy Getty, great-granddaughter of oil magnate J. Paul Getty, exchanged vows with photographer Tobias Alexander "Toby" Engel in a lavish ceremony in San Francisco, California in November 2021.

Despite wowing in her stunning silver gown, after four years of marriage, the heiress filed for divorce from Engel in January 2024, per Page Six. Though their relationship has ended, their fairytale wedding was still one to remember, and it was certainly the event of the year. On her way up to the altar, the young bride was bold in choosing her look. At the church ceremony, she opted for a custom dress by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that was decorated with broken mirrors. Her veil was embroidered with guitars and walnuts, in honor of her late father and grandmother Ann Getty, a frequent client of Galliano.

In the city of San Francisco, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made the union official. Getty's maid of honor was none other than The Queen's Gambit actress Anya Taylor-Joy. Though their storybook wedding was undeniably opulent, the festivities were attended by only a select few guests, mindful of the health risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic at the time. Naturally, Getty and Engel opted to share their special day with only their nearest and dearest. Among the intimate gathering were notable attendees, including Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece, Christian Coppola, Mimi Wade, and Hamish Bowles.

Before the ceremony, the then-26-year-old artist enlisted the help of Stanlee Gatti to organize a party inspired by the 1960s movie Barbarella starring the iconic Jane Fonda at the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts. She also donned three additional vintage looks, by French designer Emanuel Ungaro, Emilio Pucci, and Norman Norell, throughout the celebration. Music was also provided by DJ Mark Ronson and the group Earth, Wind & Fire.

Despite the couple going their separate ways, Getty has evolved into a bonafide fashion muse. Her fearless fashion sense, on full display in the wedding photos below and at events like Save Venice, will provide bridal inspiration for decades to come.
