As the Met Gala draws near, Vogue caught up with this year’s four co-chairs to discuss the highly anticipated theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Among them is A$AP Rocky, who’s had a whirlwind past few months, including securing a not guilty verdict in his high-profile assault trial and being named creative director of Ray-Ban in March. In an interview that dropped Tuesday morning, the rapper returned to his Harlem roots for a candid conversation with the magazine, joined by his grandmother Cathy, who didn’t hold back when talking about the Met Gala and, perhaps most notably, his partner Rihanna.

A$AP Rocky’s grandmother Cathy's Harlem apartment may be modest in size, but for her, it’s always been full of life—and lately, a touch of star power. Despite its humble setting, the home has welcomed some of the biggest names in the world, though none more cherished than Rihanna and the two children she shares with Rocky.

"I’m glad that he settled down, and I’m happy with who he settled down with,” Cathy told Vogue. “She’s a down-to-earth person." Her connection to the singer and makeup mogul runs deeper, as they both share Bajan roots, a cultural tie that surely strengthens their sense of togetherness.

“She loves her some Rih Rih,” Rocky chimed in, clearly touched by the bond between the two women in his life. Cathy's celebrity crush was also revealed in the interview, thanks to Rocky, sharing her secret. She took a moment to gush about Colman Domingo. ("I love him," she confessed.)

As she and Rocky moved between their apartment, Langston Hughes' home in Harlem, and Soho House, the conversation inevitably circles back to Rihanna—the woman who has become his partner in life and parenthood. Rocky described his love for her, with poetic conviction, as "internal, external, infinite, the past, the future."

For now, the rapper prepares to co-chair fashion’s biggest night alongside Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and, of course, Anna Wintour.
