Anna Delvey deceived New York's elite for years. Now Netflix is telling her story.

When Anna Delvey's story was told in a 2018 issue of New York magazine, it quickly became the talk of the town. Born Anna Sorokin in Russia, the then-27-year-old disguised herself as a German socialite and then proceeded to implicate New York's upper echelon in a game of her own making, traveling in private jets, borrowing money left and right, and racking up thousands of dollars in credit card debt, all while those around her had no idea of what she was hiding.

Sorokin managed to keep her complex grift in motion, until it finally caught up with her.

She was eventually arrested in California, where she was found hiding at Passages Malibu, a renowned rehab center. In May 2019, Sorokin was sentenced to four years in prison for grand larceny and theft of services. Her sentence was shortened for good behavior and she was released last year.

Her story has all the makings of a TV crime drama, so naturally, Netflix bought the rights. The series, named Inventing Anna, is being produced by none other than Shonda Rhimes of Bridgerton and How to Get Away With Murder, along with The Devil Wears Prada producer David Frankel.

As for Sorokin, she is using the money given to her by Netflix to repay her victims.
