Debuting in the literary world, Lupita Nyong'o has just confirmed her first children's book, Sulwe, officially releasing in January 2019. Though aimed for children ages 5 to 7 years, the actress hopes her book will inspire everyone to feel comfortable in their own skin.

"Sulwe" means "star" in Dholuo, the native language of the Academy Award-winning actress. "Sulwe is a dark-skinned girl who goes on a starry-eyed adventure, and awakens with a reimagined sense of beauty," she wrote on an Instagram post.

The book explores a 5-year-old Kenyan girl who struggles with having the darkest skin color in her family. According to New York Times, “Sulwe embarks on a whimsical adventure in the night sky that helps her see beauty differently.”
