Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima took to Instagram to tell her followers that she is reconsidering the often-superficial side of her job, and vowed to “not take off my clothes anymore for an empty cause.”

In her post, Lima recognizes the pressure of women to reach an ideal, one she is often made the face of as a model. “Everyday in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job? [sic],” she wrote, recognizing that her feelings might be universal. “In that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/socialmedia/fashion etc imposed [sic].”

As a well-respected, well-known, and well-compensated model, Lima’s commitment to shun “superficial values” signals real change in the industry—one that has been bubbling for some time now.

As a role model with more than 11 million Instagram followers, Lima’s message rings loud and clear, and her vulnerability—“I have my own things/insecurities too…they are a part of me”—is commendable. With her incredible clout, the mother of two has an opportunity to make a lasting difference: “Let’s fucking change the world,” as she puts it.
