Late last night in the dark hours of Valentine’s Day, somewhere in the world, Frank Ocean greenlighted the release of his enigmatic cover of “Moon River,” the soft, languid tune made famous by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The dreamy synth, tenderhearted delivery, and lush, layered vocals pile upon the simple strum of guitar strings to create a rendition of the 1961 original that fits flawlessly into Frank’s signature soundscape.

But what to make of the spontaneous release? Perhaps the song sets the mood for the singer’s upcoming 2018 releases. Or perhaps it’s a Valentine’s special, a resurrection of a classic for a new generation. Whatever the reason, we’re grateful for the new music.
