Taylor Swift Surprises Fans with 'Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)'
The singer will re-release her Red album in November.
If there's anyone who loves a surprise, it's Taylor Swift. Starting with her Folklore album, the singer has a history of dropping her music at a moment's notice. Following that pattern, Swift shocked her fans on Friday when she released her re-recorded version of her "Wildest Dreams" off her Grammy-winning 1989 album.
She announced the new release on her Instagram Story in a message to her fans, writing, "Hi! Saw you guys got Wildest Dreams trending on TikTok, thought you should have my version."
Earlier this year, Swift released Fearless (Taylor's Version), the first of her re-recorded albums. The "Love Story" singer plans to re-release all of her old music created under her former label Big Machine Records. The master recordings to these songs were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019 despite her open wishes to purchase them herself. The public controversy over this deal has sparked a large debate within the music industry about artists' rights to their own work.
Since the embargo on re-recording the music ended, Swift has been steadily releasing her old songs (as well as unreleased music "from the vault") to give fans the opportunity to listen to her music without profits going to Braun.
In June, Swift announced that she would be dropping her album Red (Taylor's Version) in November. She album will include all 30 songs intended for the record back in 2013, as well as the 10-minute cut of her famous breakup ballad "All Too Well." The album is scheduled to debut on November 19.
