Selena Gomez Closes a Chapter in a New Heartfelt Single
In case you haven't heard the news, Selena Gomez is BACK. The 27-year-old icon just dropped a new song (and video!), "Lose You to Love Me," which appears to be a cathartic release for the artist, as she commented on Twitter via a vulnerable iPhone note (the only way to make a social media confession in 2019).
"See, the enemy keeps trying to tear me down and it's just not gonna happen," Gomez explained after expressing how she's been using faith to guide her through uncharted territory. "Not today. Not the next."
The single is rumored to be Bieber-inspired, with pointed lyrics like, "set fire to my purpose / and I let it burn," Purpose, Bieber's 2015 album, was heavily inspired by his relationship with Gomez, and "in two months, you replaced us," hinting at their breakup and Bieber's swift engagement to his now-wife Hailey Baldwin. After several years of being on-and-off-again, Gomez and Bieber briefly reconnected in 2017 but ended things in March of 2018. The Biebers got engaged in July of 2018, legally married two months later, and held a star-studded ceremony in South Carolina just a few weeks back. In the meantime, Gomez has been focusing on herself both personally and professionally, and now she is ready to mark a new era.
Gomez's last album, Revival, came out a little over four years ago, but she's released a handful of singles (many of which were chart-toppers) to keep all of us at bay. Watch the new, heartfelt video (that was shot on an iPhone!) below.
