Our Dream Setlist for Maroon 5’s Super Bowl Halftime Show
This week, news broke that American pop-rock band Maroon 5 will be headlining this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. While guest appearances for the highly-anticipated performance have yet to be finalized—legendary musical collaborations that have included the likes of Beyoncé with Coldplay in 2016, and Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake in 2004—it is confirmed that Cardi B and Travis Scott are on the shortlist.
In a bout of excitement, we’ve dreamed up our perfect setlist for the show, filled to the brim with their greatest hits over the span of their 14-year career in music. As fan’s who’ve grown up listening to their records on repeat, we’ve been waiting a long time for this moment. And now that it’s here, a girl can dream, right?
“This Love”
Starting things off with an undeniable 2002 classic, “This Love,” is the perfect song to get the ball rolling. With the iconic guitar chords, in the beginning, syncing up to insane laser lights and billowing fog machines, the rest of the performance will be ready to go. Plus, if you’ve been a true fan since the very beginning, you know there’s simply no other way to start other than with this whiny, pop-rock gem of a song.
“One More Night”
Now that we’ve set the foundation, let’s move down a more pop-paved direction. With a mind-numbingly infectious sound, this 2012 hit will have everyone crooning along to the chorus as if it were released last month. One of their most unforgettable records, it taps into the nostalgia of both their old and young fans.
“Moves Like Jagger”
With the first two songs on the list having built a solid mid-range tempo, let’s kick things up a notch with this Christina Aguilera-spiced hit. Especially since the guest performers are still up in the air, who knows if they’ll bring in the big guns by surprising us with the vocals of Ms. Aguilera herself.
“Payphone”
Just another opportunity for frontman Adam Levine’s vocals to shine.
“Girls Like You”
Featuring Cardi B, there’s almost a 100% chance this song will be performed *if* Cardi B is confirmed as a guest performer. One of the bands most recent smash hits, this song has been dominating the charts for months now since it’s release in May. With a fire verse from Cardi, it’s sure to have the audience going absolutely crazy.
“Sugar”
Currently the song the band plays last on tour, this banger is the perfect closer for the whole show. With their wedding-crashing video reaching nearly 3 billion views on YouTube, this 2015 hit is perhaps their greatest pop jam to date.
As Maroon 5 takes the stage on Feb. 3rd at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, we can’t wait to see how the wildness will all go down. From delicious, tailgating snacks to the universal-O-K for day drinking, what’s not to love about the Super Bowl? And of course, the sports too… I guess.
