Lorde Officially Returning to Music in 2022
The "Green Light" singer will headline the 2022 Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona.
Four years after the release of her Melodrama album, Lorde gives fans the green light on her return to music by revealing that she will be headlining the 2022 Primavera Sound music festival in Barcelona, Spain. The event is schedule to take place June 2-11, 2022. According to the event's lineup, the "Liability" singer will take the stage during the second Saturday of the 10-day festival, alongside The Strokes and Massive Attack. Other event headliners include Dua Lipa, Tyler, the Creator, Megan Thee Stallion, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, and more.
For the last two years, fans have eagerly awaited the release of the singer's third studio album, however, the project was pushed back in 2019 following the death of her dog Pearl. Lorde, who has not been active on social media in over three years, told her fans in her newsletter that she needed time to grieve and recommit to music after such a deep loss.
"So I’m asking for your patience, as 2020 comes around and you start to wonder where the next record is. I have lost my boy, and I need some time to see the good again, to finish making this for you," she wrote. "But when this great loss crystallizes inside me, and my chest rebuilds around it, hopefully I’ll be able to finish up, and share it with you, and we’ll all grow together, as we always do."
In May 2020, the "Royals" artist revealed that she and Jack Antonoff had begun writing and working together again on the album. She said, "I can tell you, this new thing, it’s got its own colours now. If you know anything about my work, you’ll know what that means… The work is so fucking good, my friend. I am truly jazzed for you to hear it.” The album's title is reportedly inspired by her January 2019 trip to Antarctica.
While fans have yet to hear any of the her new songs, an impending performance on the Primavera Sound stage leads fans to believes that a record is imminent.
