Lil Nas X has never been one to shy away from controversy, and in his true signature style, the rapper is embracing his impending lawsuit with Nike over his Satan Shoes in the recent teaser for his new song "Industry Baby."

In the clip, the artist—born Montero Lamar Hill—appears at trial in an orange jumpsuit. Hill also plays the role of his bumbling lawyer as well as the prosecutor, the judge, and a jury member. While taking the stand, the prosecutor asks the rapper, "Do your momma know you gay?" When he answers in the affirmative, the judge sentences him to five years at Montero State Prison as a preview of "Industry Baby" begins.

[WATCH LIVE] Nike v. Lil Nas X – Satan Shoes Trial

In March, Hill launched a capsule collection of sneakers with the footwear brand Mschf that each contained a drop of human blood—a nod to his uproar-inducing "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" music video which featured the rapper lap dancing on the Devil. The shoes mimicked the style of Nike Air Max 97s, although the Nike logo was printed backward. However, Nike denied any relationship with Hill or the collection after the drop garnered considerable backlash for its use of actual blood.

Shortly thereafter, Nike filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the rapper and Mschf, saying, "Nike files this lawsuit to maintain control of its brand, to protect its intellectual property, and to clear the confusion and dilution in the marketplace by setting the record straight—Nike has not and does not approve or authorize Mschf’s customized Satan Shoes."

Despite the possible legal consequences, Hill has regularly made jokes on social media about the situation. Recently, he posted a TikTok where he jokingly cried about the fact that he "might go to jail." However, it seems even the threat of imprisonment has not stopped the artist from creating. "Industry Baby," which drops Friday, July 23, was produced by Take A Daytrip and Kanye West and will feature fellow rapper Jack Harlow.
